CODE OF CONDUCT

NACE has a strict set of requirements demanded from members, both new and existing, intended to provide the consumer with an effective service and to put any doubts aside regarding the quality and safety of the work carried out by a NACE member. You wont find any 'fly-by-night', 'cowboys', or 'con-men' in the NACE members list. What you will find is a selection of the most professional tradesmen in the building industry, who are committed to providing a quality and cost effective service, what ever your chimneys needs may be.

NACE GENERAL CODE OF PRACTICE

All applicable British Standards (with all their particular Parts) and Building Regulations Approved Document J must be observed and adhered to in complying with this Code of Practice.

INTRODUCTION

A Code of Practice for NACE members involved with all aspects of Chimney Engineering.

1. NACE personnel must be trained for all and any particular specific task they are required to carry out and be certified accordingly so that they are cognisant with the respective dangers of fire incidence, suffocation and any other possible health risk caused by the dysfunction chimneys and flue ways.

2. NACE personnel involved in any aspect of chimney engineering, because of its specialist requirements and the generally covert nature of the work within the chimney shall always provide the owner/occupier of the building with relevant information on any faults or problems found in carrying out the work. No NACE personnel under any circumstances whatsoever shall use or undertake any method or system within the parameters of chimney engineering which are not approved of by NACE. It is essential that when work has been completed that the chimney is proved to be venting.

3. In the event that subsequent to the work being initiated it is found that a blockage or some other hindrance makes the flue unusable then it must be clearly labelled at the fire opening and the owner/occupier informed immediately that a fire cannot be lit until such time that corrective measures have been undertaken and the flue is proved to be venting.

WORK ETHIC

The work ethic in NACE is a cultural norm that places a positive moral value on doing a good job and is based on a belief that work has an intrinsic value for its own sake. Like other cultural norms, a person's adherence to or belief in the work ethic is principally influenced by both socialization and normal training experiences. Through interaction with ADVANCED ENGINEERS, peers, and significant allied industrial connective personnel, a NACE ENGINEER earns to place a value on work behavior as others approach him in situations demanding increasing responsibility for both quality and productivity.

The occupational culture, especially the influence of an "inner fraternity" of colleagues, has a significant impact on the attitudes toward work and the work ethic which form part of each qualified NACE ENGINEERS belief system. Among the mechanisms provided by society to transfer the culture to the NACE ENGINEER are the functions of the TRAINING SCHEMES to foster understanding of cultural norms and in some cases to recognize the merits of accepting them. Vocational education, for example, has as a stated goal that it will promote the work ethic , but enlightening the NACE ENGINEER about what the work ethic is, and why it is important to success in the contemporary workplace, is a major component of the NACE educational strategy.

The NACE ethic produces work of such quality and high standards that the engineers become well know and remembered.

CERTIFICATION and DATA PLATE RECORDED AUTHENTICITY

Each member company has a registered number and is certified for the type of work that they are qualified and approved to carry out. On completion of such work a NACE DATA PLATE will be fixed as per Approved Document J of the Building Regulations. A copy of the information contained on the plate will be sent to the NACE Secretariat within one calendar month of the completion of the work. In the event that there are certain defects or matters that require close scrutiny, subsequent to the completion of the work, then these items must be recorded and a written copy must be supplied to the owner or occupier with a copy to the NACE Secretariat at the same time that the DATA PLATE information is sent.

PROMOTION & ADVERTISING

Promotional documentation and any form of Advertising which incorporates the NACE LOGO and thereby committing the Association must have the total approval of the NACE EXECUTIVE before publication.

COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE

Complaints of any nature concerning the work carried out by a NACE Member should initially in the first instance be referred to the NACE Member that carried out the work within seven working days and this must be in writing. In the event that no satisfactory agreement is arrived at then the complainant may contact the Secretariat at NACE in writing stating the facts and why they are not satisfied.
